To mark the Defence day, Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS) played an exhibition Hockey match against Karachi orange on Sunday, 6th September 2020.
In the match, under floodlights, at the beautiful Karachi Hockey Association stadium, SJAS gave tough time to the much experienced opponents with sharp defence to foil numerous attacks.
Both teams failed to score till the end of the third quarter however Karachi orange netted the ball, a few minutes before the culmination, to secure victory.
The chief guest, Provincial minister Shehla Raza distributed prizes in the end and also lauded efforts of the Karachi Hockey Association for maintaining a beautiful facility for the betterment of the national game.
Former captains Hanif Khan, Samiullah, MNA Iqbal Mohammad Ali, Secretary KHA Haider Hussain and others were also present on the occasion.
The Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS), on Thursday, July 2 celebrated the World Sports Journalists Day in Karachi.
As per the UN charter, AIPS and PSWF directives a simple ceremony was organized and in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the participants, on the occasion, strictly observed the SOPs such as sanitation walk-through gate and covering the face with mask.
In his brief speech President SJAS, Muhammad Asif Khan said that the purpose of observing this day is to pay tribute to sports journalists.
Secretary General SJAS Muhammad Asghar Azeem lauded the AIPS for organising the first-ever e-conference to bring journalists from different parts of the world closer.
Senior journalists Zubair Nazeer Khan, Riazuddin and Shahid Ali Khan along with other fellows cut the cake to mark the World Sports Journalists Day.
A large number of SJAS members attended the ceremony.

Sanjeep Lama, a former international Fencing player from Nepal and a qualified coach has been in Karachi for over two weeks to impart tips to budding local players in this growing sport in Pakistan.
“I am enjoying like home in Pakistan. The perception is entirely opposite to the reality. The people are generous and there is no problem whatsoever”, Lama told a group of journalists at the training workshop here on Sunday.
The workshop, to apprise media-persons about basic rules of Fencing, was jointly arranged by Sindh Fencing Association (SFA) and Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS). About two dozen journalists attended the workshop in which the visiting coach talked about the history, categories and points system of this Olympic sport.
“It’s a royal game and like a live chess in which presence of mind a must”, Lama said
About Pakistan players Lama said he observed Pakistan Fencers during the recent South Asian Games in Katmandu and impressed with their potential.
Meanwhile Secretary General of the Sindh Fencing Association, Muhammad Taqi said they participated in the 13th South Asian Games without Government’s support and fitting preparation however players performed exceedingly well to acquire two Bronze medals.
“The Pakistan Sports Board did post Fencing’s achievement on their website however there is no monetary support from them whatsoever”, Muhammad Taqi said
“We hope the Government will pay heed to Fencing in which there is a lot of talent”, Muhammad Taqi added
The journalists, attended the workshop, lauded the positive activity which, they said, will benefit them a great deal.
In the first executive committee meeting, of the newly elected cabinet, it was announced that stalwarts like Rishad Mehmood, sports editor Daily Dawn, and Khalid Farshori, sports editor Akhbar-e-Jahan, had formally joined the Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS). The President of SJAS, Muhammad Asif Khan along with Secretary General Muhammad Asghar Azeem chaired the executive committee meeting at the Scouts headquarters in Karachi on Saturday, February 7th, 2020.
Danish Alvi, Hum News, Jamshed Rajpur, Sindh TV and Raza Kaleem, Dawn News, have also entered the SJAS family.
In another significant development, senior sports journalist from GEO TV, Faizan Lakhani and senior sports journalist and host in Dawn News, Abdul Ghaffar have been included in the executive committee as replacements to a couple of outgoing members.
Furthermore, senior journalists Riaz uddin and Shahid Ali Khan have also been slotted in the Executive Committee.
The meeting also constituted a number or committees to further streamline the affairs of the association.

The office bearers of Sports Journalists Association Sindh (SJAS) called on the newly elected body of the Karachi Press Club on Saturday to felicitate and wish them well for their tenure. President Muhammad Asif Khan, Secretary General Asghar Azeem, Vice Presidents Mansoor Ali Baig, Mehmood Riaz, former President Tariq Aslam, Finance Secretary Irshad Ali, Joint Secretary Shahid Saati and member Executive Committee Shahid Ansari and Jawed Iqbal represented the entire members of SJAS.
KPC President Imtiaz Khan Faran, VP Saeed Sarbazi, Secretary Arman Sabir, Treasurer Raja Kamran, member Governing body Liaquat Mughal and Saeed Lashari also congratulated SJAS for the positive actives and vowed to cooperate in future endeavours.
A cake cutting ceremony was also held on the occasion.

The consistent, Sports Journalists Association of Sindh-Reds (SJAS-Reds) beat SJAS-Blues by 19 runs to lift the NBP-SJAS inter-media T20 Cup. Reds’ Shahid Ansari hammered another century to push his side to 210 runs in the allotted overs at the NBP stadium. Chasing the tough target SJAS-Blues could reach the tally of 190 runs. Jaffer Hussain played an aggressive hand of 54 while Mohsin Mehdi also exhibited responsibility for his 53 runs.
After the final match, former captain Moin Khan and former Test cricketer Iqbal Qasim distributed prizes, along with former joint-secretary KCCA Jamil Ahmed, former President Zone-7 Mazhar Awan, sports & event manager NBP Anwar Farooqi, former international cricketer Saeed Azad and President Pakistan Hockey Institute Shahab Shah.
Shahid Ansari’s 278 runs, including two centuries and a fifty earned him both man of the match and man of the series awards. Muhammad Osama was declared the best bowler while Asif Khan, with 3 catches & 3 stumps bagged the award for the best wicket-keeper of the tournament.
On the occasion, Moin Khan said he was impressed with cricketing skills of those who write about the game. He also praised SJAS for involving journalists in healthy activities is indeed commendable.
Iqbal Qasim was of the opinion that such activities are essential for journalists to relax mentally after tiring responsibilities.

Live sports magazine and PPEMF (Pakistan Print & Electronic media foundation) paid tribute to Muhammad Asghar Azeem, Secretary SJAS for his outstanding contribution to the association in his tenure 2015-19. The officer bearers of SJAS in the previous tenure were also appreciated. Iqbal Wahid, Senior Vice President/Divisional Head (CSR &SSD) was the chief guest of the ceremony held at the Sir Syed University on Saturday.
KARACHI: In an official letter, addressing the SJAS president, Muhammad Asif Khan and Secretary General Muhammad Asghar Azeem, the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) expressed the pleasure to know about the recent elections of Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS) and felicitated the newly elected office bearers.
“It is indeed the recognition of your professional contributions to sports journalism. On behalf of the entire POA family, we congratulate you and other elected office bearers of SJAS”, the letter read
The letter, signed by President POA Lt. Gen. Syed Arif Hasan (Retd) and Secretary General Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, vowed to continue working with SJAS for the betterment of sports in Pakistan.
“We are sure that members of SJAS would dedicate their efforts towards the promotion and development of sports through their valuable experience, valid observations, workable suggestions and honest reporting”, the POA’s felicitation letter concluded

KARACHI, January 5, 2019: The chief minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah and the provincial minister for information & labour, Saeed Ghani have congratulated the newly elected office bearers of Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS).
The chief minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah hoped that SJAS would continue its efforts for the promotion of sports and welfare of sports journalists in the province.
The minister for information & labour, Saeed Ghani was of the opinion that the unopposed election of SJAS’ officials was indicative of the harmony and camaraderie amongst members of the Association.
In the press statement, the Sindh government assured it’s support to SJAS in the future as well.
